About AJ

Thank you so much for visiting my site and considering Professional Organizing services. Here’s a little bit about me and why I decided to start up AJ Organizing.

My name is Andrea, or AJ if you prefer, and I’m a recent implant to the Central Coast. I’ve lived my whole life in the Midwest, but after marrying a man from LA who showed me that it is possible to live somewhere it doesn’t snow, we decided to move to California.

My “career” up to this point is a mixed bag: classical music, academia, French translation and instruction, inner city literacy support, and housekeeping. Some people ask me why a recent MFA grad would take up professional organizing. When I look back at all my career aspirations, I realize that organization has always been something I enjoy and utilize.

I remember being in grade school and organizing my friends’ closets. I’ve always had a desire to rearrange all the furniture in my room every 3 months or so to find the most efficient layout. I love packing cars to the brim and sorting bookshelves. I want to help you with your things, never from a place of judgment, and always with fun and energy.

In addition to the technical aspect of systematically going through items, I love working with people and helping them reach their goals for their homes. I’ve had my fair share of sorrow and like many people, I’ve channeled many negative emotions into shopping and holding on to certain objects. Letting go of some belongings that stored negative feelings has helped me with my grieving process. I understand the emotional weight that can come with certain possessions, and I would never force or even encourage a client to part with something that they want to keep. If you are looking for a system to help you let go of things, I strongly recommend you look into the KonMari ™ system. It is a process that I would love to guide you through.
